Renate Maas is a visual artist based in Hamburg/Germany. In her multi-disciplinary work, she critically examines the objectification and treatment of women and animals, highlighting issues of gender and species injustice. Maas employs sizes, colors, materials and techniques traditionally associated with femininity to protest the instrumentalisation of female bodies in a patriarchal society. Her pieces often explore spatial aspects, offering ambiguous forms that encourage varied interpretations depending on the viewer's perspective.

Renate Maas holds Master degrees and a PhD in Fine Art, Art History and Philosophy, and further qualifications in Education and Business. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is represented in private collections.
